Because of SRA foundation, I am able to finally earn some income for myself. I have faced a lot of challenges during lockdown. Thanks to the support of SRA foundation that I am a trained beautician today with many clients approaching me for services.

I am grateful to SRA foundation for training me in beauty, hair and makeup course. The trainers have been very kind and supportive to us.

I always had a keen interest to become a beautician but never got an opportunity. I'm thankful to SRA Foundation for training and supporting me in this course.

Who We Are

We empathise with young Indian girls who are the victims of discrimination from the time they are born. Instead of going to school, girls often find themselves forced to work in order to help their families, often from a very young age. Even more worrisome, 25% of women marry before the age of 15 and very often, they marry against their will. This has profound consequences, notably on women’s health and their precarious situation often prevents them from receiving proper health care. For many Indian women, poor treatment, violence and exploitation take place on daily basis.

We also believe that health and education are most essential aspects of human life to lead a respectful one. But as per World Bank’s estimates, there are over 80 million disables in India. There are about 10 million people suffering from loco-motor disabilities, out of which about 1 million are those who lost their limbs. Another 4 million people suffer from polio.

Also as per World Health Organization (WHO) India has the highest 12 million blind. WHO also cites cataract as the leading cause of blindness. In India, nearly 70% of disabled live in rural parts of the country as per estimates.

On the aspects of education, while literacy rate in India has grown to 74.4% (2011 provisional census figures), there is a wider gender disparity in it. Effective literacy rates for (age 7 and above) were 80.9% for men and 64.6% for women. The low female literacy rate has had a dramatically negative impact on family planning and population stabilisation efforts in India. There is also a large number of meritorious students from poor background who are not able to afford higher education. We would like to support them.

Another big challenge in front of the country is unemployment. A research conducted by Azim Premji University, showed that unemployment rate in India had doubled to around 6% in 2018 in comparison to what it was in the decade of 2000 to 2011. India has the largest youth population in the world. So skill development becomes very important. It is a process in which youth of India is enabled and mobilized in a large number to take up outcome based skill training and become employable and earn their livelihood.

As they are the future of country it is very important that they have a job or they are doing something productive so that we can eradicate unemployment.

By addressing these issues we wish to support the underprivileged who are willing to fight their lives’ challenges.

What We Do

Our aim is to provide skill development for 18 Years or older girls or women (married or unmarried / literate or illiterate) from urban slums through initiatives like:

Beauty Parlour Courses
Tailoring Courses
Computer courses for Tally / graphic design
Housekeeping Training to be placed with malls and shopping centres
Assistance to get microfinance for starting small business or finding a job

Working Model

Need identification in urban areas
Finalising camp area
Inviting target group along with their parents through pamphlets, posters
Providing counselling service for parents and assessing aptitude for attendees
Forming weekdays and weekend batches of 10 to 20 attendees
Hiring trainers for courses having duration of two to three months
Tying up with NGOs to provide microfinance to trained girls to setup small business
Placing those looking for jobs in companies

Our aim is to provide medical assistance to rural underprivileged living in remote village areas with initiatives like:

Free medical camps for health check-ups
Eye, cataract surgeries
Jaipur Foot Camp
Family welfare and related areas
Developing basic infrastructure around government hospitals for people visiting from remote areas like shelter, subsidized food and similar facilities

Advertising the camp through pamphlets, posters, newspapers

Arranging treatment camps in local hospitals or camps
Free Food, medicine and stay
Transportation assistance

Our efforts will concentrate on:

Providing quality learning at affordable cost in rural areas by aiding schools
Promoting vocational skill centers and related institutions
Scholarship for meritorious students

Monitoring & Evaluation Arrangement

Steering Committee is set up with key trustees as its members. The committee reviews the projects identified, budgets allocated and progress reports of various camps on a regular basis. Committee encourages continuous learning for the team and adopts best practices to consistently improvise.
